My own personal response to this is…

I hear it can be difficult to schedule a check ride with a DPE at times. There aren’t that many, and there’s a lot of people getting licenses and ratings. ANY DPE that wants to serve the Bend Airport should be WELCOME.

As for CFI’s, we have a few independent CFI’s at the airport, and most of them have YEARS of experience. When you take a BFR or get instruction, you’ll get more for your time and buck with a seasoned CFI. Our flight schools have CFI’s, but many of them are relatively new pilots.

As for independent A & P’s (And inspectors), I found it a good practice to have different persons looking at my plane at annual inspection time. Independents expand the list of choices. Also independents are often willing to come to YOUR aircraft for repair work or inspections. Last, you may find an independent to have a lot of specialized experience with your aircraft type and brand.

The Friends of Bend Airport is looking to install more webcams. If you have a privately-owned hangar, and you think a webcam on a mast up on the roof would provide a good view of the runway, taxiway, taxi lanes, a ramp (Vandalism/theft) or something else of value to pilots, drop us a line. We’ll provide the webcam, and install it. Don’t have power or internet? We might be able to address that also.

Update. The four webcams on the east side of the field have been operating reliably now for some months. Although one is “Down” presently and will be attended to when weather conditions permit access to the hangar roof.

The City of Bend is getting closer to installing at least one live-stream video cam on the FBO building. The city’s legal staff is reviewing it now, and we may have an update on that in the coming week.

I’m holding off on posting a photo. I went to set up a Gravatar account, and they say I first need to have a WordPress account, which is another step. I’ll raise the topic with Ken on the merits of having a shared “FOBA” WordPress account that we can all use for the purpose of establishing our own Gravatar accounts..

Another question – I went to the place on the website to post my photo. It directed me to Gravatar. That’s new to me, and it wants me to sign-up for Gravatar. Should I?
