We’re forming a workgroup to re-organize and re-purpose FOBA in the coming winter months. If you’d like to be a part of that guidance group please plan to attend our organizing meeting in early December. We’ll update this posting with the meeting date, time and location by Thanksgiving. Check back.
FOBA was founded in 2020 as a result of airport users and businesses organizing to contest a massive increase in airport lease rates. Since then, there have been other cases where persons had to come together to “React” to sudden changes in airport policy and rules. Most recently, nearly two dozen of you collectively spent thousands of hours organizing, advocating, and contributing to the revision of the airport rules and regulations. That was a very “Costly” and “Reactive” but successful effort, as described in this just-published AOPA article. As aviators, we’ve been trained to “React” to unforeseen circumstances, but we’ve also been trained to be “Proactive”. In recent months we’ve developed productive relationships with airport management and certain other city staff. Recent airport newsletters gave us all visibility of many, many imminent projects and changes coming to the airport. Let’s move out of “React” mode – more into “Proact” mode and help the City “Get it right” before and during implementation. Let’s also go a step further – and initiate efforts that the City won’t otherwise take to make the Bend Airport the best it can be.
